Take a direct train from Zurich and walk through the arcaded Old Town toward Zytglogge.
Visit the Federal Palace area and Bern Minster, then have lunch beneath the arcades.
Cross the Aare and climb or take a bus to the Rose Garden for views over the Old Town.
Return through the historic centre for the train back to Zurich.
Frequent direct intercity trains connect Zurich Hauptbahnhof and Bern in approximately one hour. Bern station opens directly onto the walkable historic centre, making the capital practical as a full-day city trip.
