The Wachau is a region, so choose a route before leaving Vienna. Trains reach Melk in about one hour and Krems in roughly 1–1.25 hours; Dürnstein usually requires an onward regional bus. A practical itinerary can link Melk, Dürnstein and Krems, but river cruises and some tourism services operate seasonally.
