Suggested one-day plan
Travel to Tivoli and begin at Hadrian’s Villa, allowing at least two hours for the large archaeological estate.
Transfer into Tivoli’s historic centre and stop for lunch.
Explore Villa d’Este’s rooms, terraces and famous fountains before a short old-town walk.
Return to Rome in the early evening.
Regional trains and buses connect Rome with Tivoli in roughly 45–60 minutes. Villa d’Este is near the town centre, but Hadrian’s Villa is a separate site several kilometres away. Plan local bus or taxi transport between them rather than treating the two villas as one connected complex.
