Giverny is where Impressionism took root in the soil. Monet's pink house, flower garden and lily pond remain planted as he arranged them, so the scenes behind the Water Lilies series appear in front of you almost unchanged.

Suggested one-day plan
Take an early train to Vernon and transfer to Giverny, arriving soon after the gardens open for the calmest light.
Tour the house, then have lunch in one of the village restaurants.
Visit the Museum of Impressionisms and take a second, slower walk around the water garden.
Transfer back to Vernon and return to Paris by early evening.
Trains from Paris Saint-Lazare reach Vernon–Giverny in about 45–60 minutes. Giverny itself is around 7 km further on: a shuttle bus timed to train arrivals, a taxi, or a bike or walk along the greenway covers the final leg, so plan for that transfer rather than expecting the gardens beside the station.
Around 6–7 hours door to door, with 2–3 hours at the house and gardens.
- The gardens close for the winter season, roughly November to late March.
- Buy a timed ticket in advance; the house entrance queue moves slowly.
- Late spring brings the wisteria and early water lilies at their best.
- The shuttle schedule is limited — check the return time before you set off.
