Day trip from Lisbon
Setúbal
Seafood, Coast & Natural Beauty
Approximately 50–60 minutes
Why visit
Setúbal combines an outstanding food market and authentic seafood culture with a working waterfront and access to the limestone hills and turquoise coves of Arrábida.
Top things to see
- Mercado do Livramento
- The historic centre
- Setúbal waterfront
- Fort of São Filipe viewpoints
- Arrábida Natural Park scenery
Suggested one-day plan
Travel to Setúbal and visit Mercado do Livramento while its stalls are active.
Explore the centre and enjoy a seafood lunch.
Walk the waterfront and fort, or use pre-arranged transport for a focused Arrábida visit.
Return to Lisbon by train or bus.
Fertagus trains from Lisbon connect to Setúbal in roughly 50–60 minutes, with buses also available. The market and centre are walkable from the station, but Arrábida Natural Park and many surrounding beaches are not; plan a local bus where seasonal service exists, taxi, rental car or organized transfer.
A full day (7–9 hours), especially if including Arrábida.
- Arrábida attractions are not all within walking distance of Setúbal.
- Local transport to beaches and park areas can be seasonal or limited.
- Visit the market in the morning before stalls close.
- Confirm return transport before leaving the city centre.
