Day trip from Barcelona

Penedès Wine Country

Vineyards & Catalan Cava

Approximately 45–60 minutes

Why visit

Penedès is Catalonia’s great wine landscape, with vineyard-covered hills and historic cellars centred around Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, the heart of traditional Cava production.

Top things to see

  • A guided Cava cellar visit
  • Sant Sadurní d’Anoia
  • The rolling Penedès vineyards
  • Modernist winery architecture
  • Local wine and food pairings

Suggested one-day plan

Morning

Travel to Sant Sadurní d’Anoia and join a pre-booked cellar tour.

Midday

Have lunch in town and learn more about local Cava traditions.

Afternoon

Visit a second reserved winery or explore the town and nearby vineyard landscape with arranged transport.

Evening

Return to the station for Barcelona.

Getting there from Barcelona

R4 regional trains connect Barcelona with Sant Sadurní d’Anoia in roughly 45–60 minutes. Some cellars are walkable from town, but many vineyard estates are outside it. Reserve visits in advance and arrange a taxi, tour or designated driver for rural wineries rather than relying on spontaneous local transport.

Recommended time needed

A full day (7–9 hours) for one or two planned visits.

Good to know
  • Individual wineries often require advance reservations.
  • Plan local transport for vineyards outside the towns before travelling.
  • Opening days and tour languages vary by producer.
  • Taste responsibly and leave driving to an arranged driver.
