Meteora is an extremely long day trip from Athens, not a nearby or easy excursion. Reaching Kalambaka/Kalabaka can take approximately 4–5 hours each way depending on current rail, coach, replacement-bus or road arrangements. Local transport is then required between Kalambaka/Kalabaka, Kastraki and the monasteries. Some travellers use organized long-day excursions, but an overnight stay is the much more comfortable option.
